Long-Term Side Effects Of Radiation Therapy

The long-term side effects of radiation therapy are occurred according to the type of treatments patient receives. While taking treatment of radiation therapy, a patient has to suffer from long term side effects like those that swelling named as edema. In this swelling, because of the general inflammation, there is an occurrence of the swelling of soft tissues.

Therefore, there is a large possibility while taking the radiation treatment for brain tumors and brain metaphases, when there is pre-existing rising of intracranial pressure. Also there is a large possibilty of obstruction of the lumen like treacha or bronchus by the tumor. So surgical intervention should be take place before radiation threapy.

Nausea Due To Radiation Therapy

Dark yellowish and concentrated type of urine, feeling of lightheaded, dizzy, faint, vomiting like coffee grounds or blood are the symptoms of nausea due to radiation therapy. Nausea is one of the side effects of the radiation therapy. A patient gets a feeling of sick to his stomach because of the affect of nausea due to radiation therapy. Also that cause large amount of omitting. This type of side effect occurs highly when a patient receives radioactive rays on his body organs like stomach, abdomen, chest and spines. This side effect nausea and vomiting becomes less when the radiation therapy is given to other parts of body organs.

Cumulative side effects of radiation therapy include both acute and persistent effects of radiography therapy. The side effects of radiation therapy may happen due to high energy of radiations. These side effects may occur due to different tolerance of people. These side effects cannot be predicted by physicians and radiographers. Sometimes physician can predict late side effects of radiography techniques

These Cumulative side effects of radiation therapy may visible after some weeks of treatment. Usually it will take 5 to 7 week to reveal side effects. These side effects are not limited to particular area of body.

The side effects of radiation therapy are separated according to type of radiation treatment. Therefore, the side effects are distinguished as acute radiation therapy side effects, general symptoms of radiation side effects, organ specific side effects and late radiation therapy side effects.

The radiation therapy side- effects is divided as acute side effects and its late side effects. A patient receiving the radiation therapy treatment is experienced these side effects by the reactions from normal body tissues. Minimal size of body tissues is the main cause of for long-term side effects of radiation therapy after receiveing radioactive rays.

There are many acute side effects of radiation therapy such as it is not suggested for `pregnant women to use radiation therapy because; it can damage cells of developing baby. It is also not used for all cancer treatments. Sometimes if precautionary measurements are not carried out then it will kill nearby healthy cells.

The other acute side effects of radiation therapy includes, vomiting, diarrhea, hair loss, skin burn, sterility, anemia etc. sometimes Acute side effects of radiation therapy may result death of patients.

Acute side effects of radiation therapy may happen due to lack of technical, ethical and legal responsibilities. These responsibilities are carried out by radiographers and physicians.

Risks Of Radiation Therapy

While taking the radiation therapy treatments, there are some risks that are involved in this radioactive therapy. Therefore, the risks of radiation therapy affects human body by causing various side effects to body organs like anemia, nausea, vomiting, skin burn, sterility, and rarely death and hair loss.

Some patients do not bear these high sensitive radioactive materials after receiving the radiation therapy. Therefore, that cause side effect like nausea and omitting. A patient suffering from nausea experiences various types of painful changes in his body. Therefore, symptoms of nausea are seemed to be very risky situation in radiation therapy.
